Castleknock's Sawyer makes Offaly football debut

Castleknock's Eoin Sawyer in action against Thomas Davis.

Mickey Harte’s involvement with the Offaly footballers began with an impressive Allianz League Division 3 victory over Sligo last Sunday and a debut for Dubliner Eoin Sawyer.

Lining out at corner forward, it was Sawyer’s first senior appearance for the Faithful after he won an All-Ireland U21FC medal in 2021 as an extended panel member. Current Offaly joint-manager Declan Kelly oversaw that success and has now given the Castleknock dual player the chance at senior level after he spent last summer in the US.

Sawyer qualifies to play for Offaly under the GAA’s parentage rule, with his father Alfie hailing from Clara. He isn’t the first Dub to have declared for the midlanders – John Coughlan (St Sylvester’s) did so in 2010, while Shane Horan (Kilmacud Crokes) completed his inter-county transfer in 2019.
