A GoFundMe page has been set up to help a former Waterford hurler who has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

Brian Greene, who won Allianz League and Munster SHC medals with the Deise in 1998 and 2002 respectively, has been receiving treatment since he was diagnosed with the disease in May 2022. The Mount Sion clubman’s father Jim was also a star hurler for Waterford.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards finishing work Brian had started on his house as well as towards a wellness room to aid him on his recovery journey.

"Brian and Debbie had purchased a site and built their home over time as a labour of love as they are both DIY enthusiasts. They had started the outside work groundworks etc and then Brian got sick," his friends said.

"We approached Brian to ask for his blessing to continue the work from where he left off nearly two years ago and also to help with the obvious financial burden they faced along the way and continue to face as Brian is on his journey.

“The aim of this GoFundMe page is to complete the groundworks which they began and we intend to add a therapeutic and wellness room to aid Brian on his journey. With your help we can help Brian along his recovery journey.”
