Westmeath football boss Dessie Dolan must plan for the new season without midfielder Sam Duncan who is heading off on his travels this week.

The Milltownpass clubman formed a formidable midfield partnership with Athlone's Ray Connellan this year as the Lake County came within a whisker of reaching the knockout stages of the Sam Maguire.

In a Facebook post, Milltownpass GAA said: "Best wishes and bon voyage to Sam Duncan and Hannah on their travels. Sam is captain of our intermediate men's team. He has been readily available to our underage members by running training sessions, meeting teams ahead of finals and hosting medal presentations.

"A huge thank you Sam for your time and commitment to the club."

Meanwhile, Westmeath GAA's Quid Game fundraiser last Sunday night raised approximately €160,000.

Gareth Carr - son of former Dublin captain and manager Tommy - won €10,000 for his club Shandonagh after edging out Garrycastle's Karl Henson in the final round.
