Roscommon kept their perfect start in Division 1 of the Allianz Football League intact thanks to a 1-12 to 0-12 win over Armagh at Dr Hyde Park this afternoon.
‘Man of the Match’ Enda Smith netted the game’s only goal from the penalty spot with 20 minutes remaining and the Rossies went on to prevail in what was an airtight third round encounter.
It was Armagh that led by 0-8 to 0-7 at the halfway stage, but it could’ve been much worse for the hosts had Ciarán Lennon not denied Tiernan Kelly with this sublime block (see below) on 32 minutes just when the Orchard forward was about to pull the trigger.
Ben O’Carroll and Diarmuid Murtagh shot points that saw Davy Burke’s men hit the front early in the restart before O’Carroll won a penalty for Smith to convert which, ultimately, ended up being the difference as the Rossies moved two points clear at the top of Division 1.
