Roscommon footballer Cathal McHugh was celebrating a stunning success from Dubai yesterday after his horse Skyace won the Grade 1 Mares Novice Hurdle championship final at Fairyhouse.
The St Brigid's clubman, who lives in Abu Dhabi with his wife Aoife and works as a teacher in the city, roared home the John Hanlon-trained mount with fellow members of the Birdinthehand syndicate across the other side of the world.
It's fair to say the Birdinthehand syndicate got excited when 4/1 shot Skyace, who was bought for just €700 last year, crossed the finish line to win her first Grade 1.
Speechless... Thank you Jody, Shark, the yard, birdinthehand syndicate, What a journey, What a mare... @Fairyhouse @HRIRacing https://t.co/wW4hlSXFXL

Meanwhile, Freewheelin Dylan created history back at the Meath track today when winning the Irish Grand National at 150/1 for local trainer and Curraha clubman Dermot McLoughlin.
