Richie Hogan gains possession for Danesfort during the Leinster Club IHC final against Ratoath at Pairc Tailteann

Danesfort (Kilkenny) captured the Leinster club intermediate hurling championship title with a 2-15 to 0-12 win against Ratoath (Meath) at Pairc Tailteann this afternoon.

Seven-time All-Ireland winner Richie Hogan came off the bench to net the Kilkenny champions’ second goal as they sealed their club’s first Tommy Murphy Cup success at the Navan venue.

It was Ratoath that dominated large portions of the first-half to lead by 0-9 to 0-3 at the interval, with Podge O’Hanrahan’s frees and a brace from Darragh Kelly seemingly having them in the driving seat.

Danesfort used the strong wind to their advantage after the change of ends, trimming their deficit to five with the help of a couple of Anthony Ireland Wall frees before they hit the jackpot.

Sam Hayes's goal in the 48th minute left two points between the sides and scores from Wall and Fionn Mahony would level it before substitute Hogan fired the Kilkenny men in front with his goal in the 53rd minute.

From there, the victors didn’t look back as points via Robbie Walsh, Paddy Hogan (2) and Wall were backed up by Richie Hogan and Robbie Walsh in the added minutes to see them safely over the line towards provincial glory.
