The GAA’s Central Appeals Committee has endorsed the 12-week ban meted out to Cork manager Ronan McCarthy.

The Rebel County boss received the suspension after it was revealed that his team had breached the GAA’s Covid-19 training ban by holding a team gathering at Youghal beach in January.

His Down counterpart Paddy Tally was also found guilty of 'misconduct considered to have discredited the association' after members of the Mourne County panel had met up at Abbey CBS in Newry but the Central Hearings Committee subsequently reduced his proposed ban of twelve weeks to eight.

McCarthy’s appeal was heard by the CAC on Monday night but the committee failed to rule in his favour.

He now has the option of going the DRA route but, as things stand, his three-month suspension, which came into effect on February 18th, remains in his place.
