Tyrone are All-Ireland Masters football champions for the fifth year running after dealing Donegal an emphatic 5-10 to 1-9 defeat at Kingspan Breffni this afternoon.
The holders hit the ground running in Cavan Town with a Mark Donnelly goal after just 44 seconds and they’d net twice more via Barry Daly and Donnelly to go on and hold a 3-5 to 0-3 advantage come the interval.
Stephen O'Neill extended the Red Hands’ advantage to a dozen points with a free in the opening minute of the restart and they’d have the ball in their neighbours’ net again moments later, with Marty McGrath the man to raise the green flag this time.
Donegal did get a goal back through Benny Boyle from the penalty spot prior to adding points via Damien Browne (2), Shaun Maguire, Eunan Keaveney and Stephen Coyle that took some tarnish off the scoreboard.
However, Shane McCann would rattle in Tyrone’s fifth goal ahead of points from McCann, Gary Coney, Bary Daly and Martin Conway sailing over, which saw them winning out by 13 in the end as captain Conor Gormley proudly collected the Dr Mick Loftus Cup on his team’s behalf.
Earlier at the same venue, Cavan captured the All-Ireland Masters Shield by defeating Antrim on a 3-12 to 1-14 scoreline on their home turf.
