London got their Christy Ring Cup campaign off to an impressive start by handing Meath a 5-18 to 0-21 defeat in Trim this afternoon.
Paul Kennedy’s early goal set the visitors and they’d net three more times via Conor O’Carroll, Kennedy and Jack Morrissey to move towards a 4-9 to 0-9 lead at the interval.
Morrissey bagged the Exiles’ fifth major four minutes into the restart and added eight more points to their tally from there to win out by a dozen in the end.
Wicklow got up and running in their own Christy Ring Cup bid by seeing off Tyrone on a 1-24 to 2-16 scoreline in Aughrim.
Padraig Doran netted the Garden men’s goal in the run up to half-time, when they went in with a 1-12 to 0-9 advantage, and they’d up their lead to eight in the second-half prior to Kiefer Morgan and Aidan Kelly netting goals in the closing quarter for the Red Hands which proved mere consolation.
In Celtic Park, neighbours Derry and Donegal served up an intriguing derby clash which saw the former winning by 1-21 to 1-17 in the end.
Sean McVeigh’s point helped Donegal to edge a 1-9 to 1-8 lead at half-time prior to the Oak Leafers edging in front again, pushing their lead out to five midway through the second-half before and going on to record a four-point victory.
