Former Roscommon captain Conor Devaney has announced his retirement from inter-county football.
The Kilbride clubman was a key figure in the Rossies’ Connacht SFC triumphs in 2017 and 2019, and captained the team when it captured the Division 2 National League title in 2018 before tasting league success with his county again two years later.
His performances during the 2017 season earned him an All-Star nomination.
Having made his senior debut with Roscommon in 2007, Devaney represented his county 117 times and racked up an impressive 14-108 in the process.
The year previous to that saw Devaney and his team mates leading Roscommon to All-Ireland minor glory when they defeated Kerry after a replay in Ennis.
Roscommon GAA chairperson Brian Carroll stated the following after the 33-year-old announced his retirement yesterday:
“On behalf of Roscommon GAA I wish to thank Conor for his dedication and commitment to Roscommon GAA," he stated.
"Conor's skill and flair on the pitch was very evident from a young age and that magical left foot lit up many of the 117 games that Conor played in for the primrose and blue.
"I wish Conor and his family the very best of luck in the future and I also wish to thank Conor’s club Kilbride for all their work developing Conor from a young age into the fine footballer he was."
