Tyrone eased their relegation worries and put a dent on Mayo's hopes of a final appearance with a valuable two-point win over the Connacht champions in this evening's Allianz Football League Division 1 clash at Healy Park.

A repeat of last year's All-Ireland SFC decider, the Red Hands scored their third successive victory against the westerners, largely on the back of a strong first-half showing.

Backed by a stiff breeze, five points without reply in the opening 22 minutes with as many different players contributing set the All-Ireland champions on their way to a 0-11 to 0-9 success.

Frank Burns, Peter Harte, Conor Meyler, Darragh Canavan and Rory Brennan all registered scores before a Ryan O'Donoghue free finally opened Mayo's account.

A superb Meyler point got the Red Hands going again and Harte landed two more as Jordan Flynn and O'Donoghue from another placed ball responded for James Horan's side to leave them trailing 0-8 to 0-3 at the break.

Matthew Donnelly stretched the gap back out to six points at the start of the second-half but Mayo hit a purple patch and further O'Donoghue frees had the margin down to one by the 50th minute, 0-9 to 0-8.

The visitors battled well throughout but could never quite get back on level terms as Darren McCurry's point stopped the rot for the Red Hands and Canavan's second four minutes from the end of normal-time wrapped up a precious two league points.
