Davy Fitzgerald was bitterly disappointed with Waterford's performance in their 0-18 to 0-27 defeat to Cork.

After losing narrowly to All-Ireland champions Limerick in the opening round, the Deise will need to win their remaining round-robin games against Tipperary and Clare to keep their Munster SHC hopes alive.

“It’s easy to assess the performance,” the deflated Waterford manager told reporters afterwards.

“It was absolutely terrible. Lack of energy, lack of drive – it was just very disappointing.

“I’d love to tell you why, I just don’t know. It wasn’t the same team that lined out last week. Maybe I got something wrong during the week, I don’t know. That desire to get to the ball in front – we knew that, from puckouts, they’d pull a lot in like Limerick and leave that space but we didn’t attack it.

“Last week, we attacked the space but we didn’t today. If you let Cork get to the ball, they’re going to hurt you, so they are, and they did that today."
