Kerry midfielder Sean O’Brien is set to be ruled out of action for the long term after sustaining a anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury while on club duty.

O’Brien suffered the injury during Beaufort’s intermediate football championship clash against Glenflesk.

The injury occurred just before half-time, with O’Brien being taken off the pitch, and a scan this week has since confirmed that the Kingdom star tore his cruciate and also did some cartilage damage as well.

O’Brien is now set for a long-term spell on the sidelines as he looks to recover from the injury, with the timeline for it likely to see him missing the Munster champions’ Allianz League campaign next season and a return for some of the All-Ireland championship the best case scenario.
