O’Brien’s goal came inside the opening minute for the home side and, after falling behind, a couple of O’Connor frees late in the first-half sent John Kiely’s team in at the break with a 1-9 to 0-11 advantage.
After shipping a few early second-half points, Cork got back to within one with scores from Brian Hayes, Tim O’Mahony and Shane Barrett but conceded another goal in the 55th minute – this time O’Neill provided the finish – which rocked the visitors as O’Neill (two frees) and Hugh Flanagan sent over unanswered points afterwards.
