Armagh proved too strong for Monaghan in this afternoon’s Allianz Football League Division 1 opening round clash in Clones.
It finished 1-27 to 0-18 at St Tiernach’s Park, where Andrew Murnin (1-4) netted the game’s only goal in its dying stages.

Kieran McGeeney’s side had been electric in the first-half of this derby opener, running up a 0-15 to 0-4 lead by half-time with the help of scores from Murnin, Oisin O’Neill, Conor Turbitt and Greg McCabe.
Points from Oisin O’Neill and Calum O’Neill pushed the visitors’ advantage out to a dozen before a couple of sorely needed two-pointers from Andrew Woods and Stephen O’Hanlon sailed over for the Farney men.
O’Hanlon and Dylan Byrne would raise white flags for the home side after that before the former grabbed his second two-pointer, but they'd only served to take some tarnish off the scoreboard as Turbitt, Ross McQuillan and Oisin Conaty all shot over before Murnin netted late on.
