Monaghan GAA has paid a glowing tribute to departing Games Development Manager Paul O’Connor.

The county board said that O'Connor ‘leaves a huge legacy behind’ after 18 years being responsible for the delivery of GAA games development policy in the Farney County.

“As the curtain comes down on Paul O’Connor’s term as Monaghan Games Development Manager, Monaghan GAA would like to extend a huge thank you to Paul for the time, commitment and dedication he invested in Monaghan GAA since 2007,” a statement read.

“During his 18 years at the helm Paul was synonymous with all Juvenile GAA activity in the county in both hurling & football from Primary School & Secondary School coaching, to After Schools Programmes, Easter Camps, Summer Cúl Camps, GAA For All Camps, Development Squads and to Monaghan Minors reaching the All-Ireland Football Final in 2023 for the first time in 84 years.

“Paul had a vision and put structures in place to make dreams become a reality for the youth of Monaghan by giving them the opportunity to play at the highest level possible. His passion for the GAA and his infectious enthusiasm inspired everyone. He saw the potential in Juveniles and harnessed it, inspiring them to shine.

“He created strong links with both schools and coaches in clubs. Paul leaves a huge legacy behind and we wish him good luck in the next chapter of his life.”
