Westmeath champions St Loman’s are appealing the red card Shane Dempsey received in the closing stages of last Sunday’s Leinster Club SFC first round victory over Shelmaliers.

St Loman’s manager Paddy Dowdall confirmed afterwards that the Mullingar club would be contesting the decision of Laois referee Seamus Mulhare to issue the corner forward with a straight red card for a high challenge on Simon Donohue in injury-time.

It was Dempsey’s first time to be sent off in his career and St Loman’s are hoping the decision will be overturned to allow him to play in Sunday week’s provincial quarter-final against Longford’s Emmet Óg Killoe – who ironically are managed by former St Loman’s boss Luke Dempsey – at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
