Kilkenny recovered from a poor start to see off Wexford by 2-17 to 2-12 in the Leinster minor hurling championship this afternoon.

The Cats’ nightmare start in Bellefield saw them shipping two goals in the opening 10 minutes, with Cillian Byrne on hand to finish both chances for Wexford and leave the scoreboard reading 2-2 to 0-1 after just eight minutes.

Kilkenny responded with a goal of their own via Mikey Stynes and hammered to the Model lads’ net again through Anthony Ireland Wall to level the game on 2-3 apiece after 13 minutes.

Aaron McEvoy’s frees nudged the Cats in front but Wexford got level by the break (2-7 to 2-7) and in the second-half scores from McEvoy, Rory Glynn, Eoghan Lyng and Edward McDermott helped see Kilkenny over the line.

In O’Moore Park, Laois found their goal scoring touch to record an impressive 4-22 to 0-10 victory over Kildare on a day that saw the two counties also meeting in the Leinster U20 championship.

The game it Portlaoise saw the O’Moore lads build on a 1-11 to 0-7 lead by firing in three second-half goals to condemn the Lilywhites to a 24-point loss.

Carlow moved a step closer to the quarter-finals of the province with a 2-18 to 0-8 win over Down in Abbotstown.

Alan Roche’s lads proved much to strong for the Mourne County, hammering in both of their goals during the first-half to lead by 2-12 to 0-3 at the break.

The Barrowsiders outscored their counterparts by 0-6 to 0-5 in the second-half to book the comfortable win and it means a win next weekend against Westmeath will advance them to the knock-out stages.

In Banbridge, Antrim were 3-16 to 1-9 winners over Meath, while the earlier game this afternoon in Abbotstown saw Westmeath annihilating Derry on a 6-26 to 0-2 score-line.
