Sligo have withdrawn from this year's All-Ireland U20 'B' Hurling Championship due to a lack of available players.
In a statement released last night, Sligo GAA said the county was not in a position to fulfil this weekend's Richie McElligott Cup opener against Derry due to "a small playing pool," and "other demands on the players ... from other hurling commitments, college etc." It comes after Wicklow hammered Louth by 28 points in the opening game of the competition last evening.
"This is not a decision that we ever wanted to make, and we do so with regret", Sligo GAA chairman Sean Carroll said.
"But we were left with little option following consultation with team management. It is a real pity because it is exactly the kind of competition in which we would like to be involved, in order to bring players on for the benefit of both clubs and county teams.”
