Tullamore held their nerve to kick nine penalties and send holders Ferbane crashing out of the Offaly senior football championship yesterday at O’Connor Park.
In what was the first ever penalty shoot-out in the Offaly SFC, the sides couldn’t be separated after 80 minutes in Tullamore as the score board read 1-14 to 0-17 after extra time.
In the end, Ciaran Egan fired in for Tullamore and Ferbane’s Sean Flynn missed the last spot kick of the shoot-out to advance the Blues through 9-8 towards a final date against Rhode next Sunday week.
