Down attacker Oisín Savage will miss the Tailteann Cup final due to a broken jaw suffered in the semi-final defeat of Sligo.

There was a six-minute delay during Sunday’s epic semi-final at Croke Park while the unconscious Loughinisland clubman received treatment before being stretchered from the pitch following an incident for which Yeats County defender Nathan Mullen received a straight red card.

The injured Mourne County forward will undergo surgery today, his 21st birthday, and will play no part in the Tailteann Cup final against Laois at Croker on July 13th.

Savage’s club provided the following update on Facebook: “Good news in that our Oisin is on his way home from Dublin. Not so good news is that he will be up for surgery on his broken jaw tomorrow [Tuesday].”
