Cork forward Shane Kingston made a remarkable gesture to the family of the late Dillon Quirke after his passing earlier this month.

Dillon died on August 5th after collapsing during a club championship game with Clonoulty/Rossmore against Kilruane MacDonaghs at Semple Stadium in Thurles.

The 24-year-old’s funeral took place four days later, with GAA president Larry McCarthy among the hundreds of mourners who attended.

Also present was Tipperary Live journalist Enda Treacy, who revealed in his column this week that, in a heart-warming gesture, Kingston presented the Quirke family with the jersey Dillon wore against Cork in his final game for Tipperary in May.

"The two men had marked each other in the game and traded jerseys at the final whistle, and it was a touch of real class from Kingston to travel all that way to pay his respects, and it really showed the quality of the Cork hurling family,” Treacy wrote in his column.

The gesture from Kingston was in line with the many tributes paid to Dillon since his passing.
