Wexford hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald will not be on the sideline for his side’s Leinster SHC quarter-final against Laois later this month after being hit with a two-match suspension.

Fitzgerald and Antrim counterpart Darren Gleeson clashed during the first-half of last Saturday’s Allianz Hurling League fourth round clash at Corrigan Park, where the Model County boss was sent to the stands by referee Patrick Murphy.

The offence was deemed as “any type of physical interference with an opposing player or team official” which under rule 7.2 (c) Cat IIIa(i), carries a two-match ban.

It is understood that Fitzgerald will not contest the suspension, meaning he will sit out Wexford’s remaining Allianz League fixture against Dublin this weekend and the championship opener against Laois at Nowlan Park two weeks from Saturday.

Speaking to TG4 after last weekend’s drawn encounter with Antrim, the Clare man stated:

“I’ve seen various managers go at it toe to toe, that’s the way it goes.

"I’ve nothing but respect for what Darren Gleeson has done and what he had done in Antrim, but if we’ve to say something to each other we'll have a go. And that's the way it is, that’s between the two of us. I won't be talking about it anyway.

"It isn’t my first time that’s happening and it probably won’t be my last."
