Following extensive work that begun last July, Markievicz Park is ready to host the Connacht SFC semi-final between Sligo and Galway on Sunday.
Months of work have bore fruition as the grounds and pitch look splendid heading into the weekend’s championship action.
Sligo GAA Development Officer Richard Brennan revealed to the Sligo Champion that the work had met their expectations.
“Markievicz is looking really good thankfully, we were under pressure, but the weather was favourable to us and there wasn’t too much rain,” said Brennan.
“It’s looking well now. We started last July and the first round of work was draining it and take up all the soil. It had been 35 years since any big work was done on it which was a very long time. If this one lasts as long, we will have done something right.”
