To be honest I was not aware of his track record.
I spoke with him last night about my health situation because he took the time to ask me. He has such a positive persona about him he makes you look at things differently. I did not get good news Monday and I was explaining it to him, I left him with a far more positive feeling long may it continue."
Hello Sean, how are you keeping? I hope your in good form and on the mend.

Well I feel not so bad at the moment they are going to do a full DEXA scan next month and I am not sure when they are going to operate on me. I know my three consultants are having a meeting in two week time so I should know more after that. The medication is crewel to be honest but hey let's think positive and not negative and enjoy the month ahead. Then the football after that.
Thank you for asking'

Best of luck to you Sean! Hopefully everything will work out in your favour..

Haven't been on here in awhile.
Just saw Sean's post regarding his illness and I wish him all the best. It puts football in perspective. We all love our football but your health is everything.
Best wishes Sean and my prayers will go with you.

Very best wishes, Sean. We don't always agree 100% on football matter but I respect your opinion and everyone has their own thoughts on the beautiful game. You'll battle through this and plenty of support there for you if needed.

By the way, whats your prediction for Cavan in division 1? Do you think we will have enough to stay up?

Yes thank you for your best wishes.

As you know people knock my predictions and rightly so.
If the mood in the camp is anything to go by I think Cavan will stay up. New kids on the block old lads on the block all working together it's great. The moral is very high and why not they are now a division 1 team. All about attitude isn't it and from what I see thats good enough for me.
Mattie, Lorcan Owen, Finbarr all doing their thing and everyone is happy. You will be surprised how the prodigal son is doing for a change he really looks a happy person thank god. I look forward to the 2017 season with relish. My first thoughts were Cavan would draw all their games but I feel this will not be the case we have a boss that's forward minded so don't be a bit surprised that we win a few as well. Look it all depends on how others approach Cavan isn't it. I think they will be respected going forward. First few games will be hard. ( not losing a game is a big ask so being a realist I expect we could lose one or two.)
As you know I am not a Cavan man so I will have a lot of interest in Division 2 this year as my beloved county are there after being relegated with 6 points and I don't want us passing them by at the end of the season. I hope please god we will be playing each other in 2018 in Division1.

Well I hope we never have to deal with a prodigal son scenario again. We are a small county talent wise and we need everyone on board who are willing to commit.
Players who didn't perform last year might perform better this year so let's not rule anyone out.
We need to get the right balance also for facilitating club games during the year so that inform club players could be added to the panel during the year.
Derry clubs played a minimum of 15 league games from April through to August . It's no wonder then that Slaughtneil are club champions because club football hasn't been neglected through the summer months up there.
Let's give the newer lads time to adjust to county football. It takes time but there plenty of experienced heads there to help them along.
I remember when Dermot Mc cabe joined the panel back in the mid 90s it took him a few years to adjust.

The club scene definitely needs to be looked at and I am in agreement on that.

When you think about it, this is the feeding ground for the county team. It is also the place where players can develop. As it stands, if somoene hasn't played county underage then they are in serious danger of never getting a chance and that is wrong. Dermot McCabe has been mentioned before and this is a good example as he was a late developer and turned out to be one of our best we have ever produced. The county board have to get the balance right. We need constant competition for places, not only on the team, but also on the panel. If we don't give club players game time then this can not and will not happen. This is a major issue and needs to be fixed urgently otherwise it will hurt Cavan football big style!

I would just like to add my best wishes John along with everyone else. Also that is a very good point you make about Cork being relegated with 6 points. Now I think most of Cavan would be delighted to get 3 wins in Div 1 or 2 wins and 2 draws. However it would be a shame to then get relegated with that total. It just shows you how hard it's going to be to stay up. Where are the points going to come from. Realistically I cannot see us getting anything from Dublin, kerry or Mayo. If we need 6 or 7 points to stay up then we will HAVE to beat ; Roscommon,Monaghan and hope to get something out of the Donegal and Tyrone games. A tall order indeed.

Funny thing is my feeling is we will pick up early points because we will be fresh and rearing to go I also believe we will beat Roscommon. I feel we will be hitting the ground running for I am sure number one priority will be to stay in Division one. I don't believe you will see anything other than an experimental team for the McKenna cup as it's a non important competition other than a chance to see new blood playing and showing their hands.

The point I made was Dermot Mc cabe was in his 3rd year playing county football before he made a real impression.

I cannot see Cavan picking up any points in devision 1 this year. A swift return to devision 2 is on its way.
The players who have dropped out of the panel show a real lack of pride, integrity and ambition by dropping out of the panel at this crucial stage in our development.

That's very unfair . There's more to life than football you need to realise that. Some of these lads have to go to London to earn a living. That comes first. I'm sure they all have good valid reasons be it work or family commitments. Comments like what you have just made are so uncalled for.

I agree that I cannot see us picking up points, BUT, your comments on the lads leaving the panel are out of order.
This is an amateur sport. A past time !! It's not going to pay the bills. Your comments are very narrow minded. There is much much more to life than football. It may be all you have in your life but for most of us, its only a small part of it. Much more important things like family and work.
Two of the lads are going to London to work.
They have given exceptional service to the county and sacrificed a lot.
I would be thanking them for their service and wish them every success in their careers.

I agree 100% with what everyone has said against your post and in another topic I mentioned the reasons why similar to what has been posted. This decision was made long before Cavan got their new manager and who knows lad some may well be back. Family first football a distant second people have to live don't they.
Give you an example without naming the person he busted his B for many years got injured and struggled to get back onto the panel, up to a few months ago five years or so on he was getting the dole and I am not sure that he still is. I know he was getting a bit here and there but it's a perfect reason why every footballer should put their priorities in perspective. Wish them well thank them for their services is what you should be doing not belittling them.
