Your being extremely harsh on the connaught final! It was obvious it wasn't going to be a good game because of the horrendous weather conditions but i thought they both did very well to get the scores they did so I for one am very dissapointed the replay is not on TV! Will givney be playing saturday? he has been our best player this season!

Not the players. The players are playing to the manager's instructions / plan. If it's not working after all the time Terry has been given then he should go along with his backroom team. I do believe we'll beat Derry but having spells of negative football where we don't score for 20 odd minutes against the likes of Carlow in Breffni Park is not very good. Terry is far too slow to freshen things up and to recognise areas where we are having problems. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 12/07/2016 09:57:50 1881565 Link 0 |

There should be no vultures in Breffni on Saturday. Some of those Derry players don't even look fit. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 12/07/2016 10:29:34 1881588 Link 0 |
I thought that too looking at the "highlights" of Derry and Meath, it was like two junior clubs who'd been on the beer together.

I see Terry has said loosing Givney was a blow and that this year they set up a system around him. Thats fine. Play_by_ear (Cavan) - Posts: 24 - 12/07/2016 13:30:30 1881783 Link 0 |
A more important question ! if Givney was injured WHY did they play him ? StirringIt (Cavan) - Posts: 374 - 12/07/2016 13:56:10 1881809 Link 0 |
Correct ... But is lumping balls into a big full forward really a system? It's something that might catch the opposition off guard but to think you could use it over the full course of a game is madness. Just goes to show there nothing else in place. Because if there was Terry would never have brought the subject up. As you rightly say Argue or Keating could have replaced Givney to keep the so called system going. It's worrying to think that playing attacking football has changed our system. What was the game plan before,? Crazy comments from clearly clueless management running out of ideas . They already had big men in there with gmac and Keating. Keating is not at the races at all and there was nothing anyone could have done after Tyrone scored the second goal . We carried the ball every time got turned over and they hit us on the break . We should have started with a quick forward playing off a big man not 3 big men together. Mackey was probably our best and worst player. He holds onto the ball far to much. He got most possession but no end product. Even in Carlow game had chances to play other players in but didn't. Kicked a few into the goalies hands with men in better positions. Also gmac the same . 3 times in second half he declined to give the ball to men in better position s. Re Argue I watched cavan warm up and he dropped every ball that came his way. He must not be going well in training. Hopefully we get a win on Saturday. Best of luck lads .

Sorry lads, haven't been on in a while, deliberately stayed off as I wanted to let Jonsmith, Skelling, Cavan97 and the band of Terry supporters have their say... deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 12/07/2016 14:53:11 1881861 Link 0 |
Injuries beginning to take their toll on the squad now. Let's hope Martin Reilly isn't out for the year. Inactive x5 (Cavan) - Posts: 1452 - 12/07/2016 15:12:02 1881890 Link 0 |
Ah Deano, you've been missed. I haven't been saying that much but I do see your point as well as Awwwwnow. Terry has got it wrong in selection and making switches and changes in the championship and we should have reached an Ulster Final in his tenure. I personally think Terry has brought us as far as he possibly can and its time to freshen things up but in reality he will probably stay until 2017. The players and supporters are demoralised at the moment following the Tyrone defeat. Terry unfortunately isn't going to change the first 15 too much at this stage which is a pity as there are some players who will play regardless of form. Our best back on the 40 is also baffling as I said in a previous post. However, I personally don't like people saying the sooner Cavan are beat the better, I could never say that or wish for Cavan to loose. With regard to the players, no one goes out to play bad and they are seriously busting a gut to get our county back up the pecking order regardless of what we think. Derry are no world beaters, Givney is a big loss but if Cavan play to their ability they should reach an AI quarter final and get the experience of Croker and another big team before Div 1 next year. At the moment this is probably a very hard time for the players but this is an opportunity to get up and react in a positive way when the chips are down. cavan97 (Cavan) - Posts: 369 - 12/07/2016 15:53:03 1881935 Link 0 |

Lads I've read all the posts since the Tyrone game and like everyone I was disappointed with the performance but this team is developing, of that I have no doubt but like all teams developing there will be pitfalls and inconsistency along the way. I say every club footballer in Cavan is praying for a Derry win so they can all come back out of retirement and play ball again. Same thing different year. To make things worse there will be an influx of club games but together as a result including mid week and bank holiday games. BootIt (Cavan) - Posts: 136 - 12/07/2016 22:53:56 1882232 Link 2 |
This game will test our dept of panel with start players out, Derry will be no push over but hoping we can get across the line with a win, beating derry is always a great boost and the players will know this a feel. sendithome (Cavan) - Posts: 25 - 12/07/2016 23:16:42 1882249 Link 0 |
