Was the Ref totally bias last night, or is the commentator a complete homer ? ulster40 (USA) - Posts: 79 - 07/02/2016 20:00:35 1823203 Link 0 |
Skelling...we struggled against London to get toba Q/Final, and when we got there, Kerry toyed with us without having to hit 2nd gear. I'm not sure when you last attended any club games but forwards are in abundance in Cavan but as Goonie correctly pointed out, they are being swallowed up by this defensive system. deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 07/02/2016 20:59:44 1823240 Link 0 |

Ah Deano, you know Im not attending Cavan Senior games this year. So therefore I really can comment on a match I have not seen. I attended Pearse park yesterday and could only comment on the gutsy way Longford came back from 5 down to win. I am hurt Cavan lost. Is Terry the right man for the job? of course. For one reason, The discipline and approach to training compared to 6 or 7 years ago. The social drinking is gone. Now we can support our county knowing them lads are giving their all for our county, not what could have beens only starting to play 7 points down in a match with pride to play for in the second half, way too many of them games in the past. This is his last year so like him or like him not he's here until the end of the championship. I've always had issues with selection but I and others have had with any manager so that's nothing new. But Deano, you shouted long and hard for your superstar to be back and now he is back are you not heading in to cheer him on? God knows you did enough campaigning for him cavan97 (Cavan) - Posts: 369 - 08/02/2016 09:09:29 1823308 Link 0 |
I was at both games so far this year and, while disappointed with the outcome of both, my honest opinion is that we are not far off the mark, but we don't know how to close out games. FrDougalMaguire (Cavan) - Posts: 152 - 08/02/2016 09:54:24 1823327 Link 0 |
We will be fine FrDougalMaguire they have the fire power just that final tweak and they will be hard beat. Just thinking back to the U21 Hastings cup saying they did not want to win it but as I stated winning creates confidence self belief and the win attitude so I hope people understand winning is important and increases moral. I am saying this with confidence we will be fine and for those critics out there it's fecking hard going for any lad on these pitches wet mucky blustery raining not easy and we are a kick away from winning matches thats a very positive change from 2015 isn't it not that we were that far off then either. The inability to kick the ball over the bar form close enough range is killing us.. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 08/02/2016 11:35:08 1823386 Link 0 |
We don't know how to play the blanket properly. That's the main problem. Just watch the first 10 minutes of 2012 all Ireland and you will see how the blanket should be played. Quick ball out of defence accurately where the forwards wins his ball. That's the secret . Lateral handpasses out of defence is not the way. Watch lacys ball to Murphy in the first 5 minutes against mayo and you see what I mean . Also you need a settled team where Everyman knows what he suppose to be doing Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 08/02/2016 12:03:40 1823412 Link 0 |
No offence Sean but you're thinking is a bit irrational. "We'll be fine and everything will be ok" seems to be your thinking. The reality is, nobody is going to hand us two points. You seem to think we'll miraculously pick them up somewhere, well, to borrow a phrase from your good self "LET ME TELL YOU", the Armaghs and Meaths of this world will give us nothing easy. There isn't one game remaining where we'd be confident of getting a win. Fermanagh perhaps, but they could easily surprise us as they have better forwards and arguably a better midfield. After years of underage promise we find ourselves fighting to retain second tier status and most people on this board are delighted with that. Strange mindset for apparent "fans". Fermanagh - tight but we usually come out on top MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 493 - 08/02/2016 13:14:33 1823461 Link 0 |
I think that we will also finish on 6 but I would think we will take Laois but not so sure about Fermanagh. Reformation (Cavan) - Posts: 356 - 08/02/2016 13:52:11 1823484 Link 0 |
From what I saw Saturday evening I have no doubt Cavan will be very safe. Ten points should they win their remaining matches I believe will get them promotion, but right now priority is safety don't you think. Ned_Stormcrow (Cavan) - Posts: 1071 - 08/02/2016 13:59:53 1823492 Link 0 |
Rewind 12 months...have a look at the forums from last year...dejavu..same conversations about the same system, the same errors, the same problems...nothing's changed in 12 months and that's all down to the manager. If people are happy with mediocrity and Cavan being an average football team, then it's a sad state of affairs for a County steeped in football tradition. These says people seem to think that losing narrowly to Tyrone and Derry should be applauded, why not raise the bar and go and beat them. The system is not working, it hasn't worked for over 3 years, take off the shackles and let them play football. deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 08/02/2016 20:03:28 1823691 Link 0 |
Posters are right when they say we have played the best two teams in the groupe and came very close on both occasions but the down side is that we got both at the right time and did not take advantage... I doubt if we played both at the end of the campaign that we would have any chance if both were in the promotion hunt.. We should gather enough points to stay up but at the end of the day our style of play is laughable.. Look at Roscommon yesterday and the way they took the game to Kerry and kicked some wonderful scores... We have every bit as good and committed bunch of players as Roscommon but are totally hamstrung by negative management.. People say we don't have the forwards but that is rubbish.. No forward in the country would have a hope with the way Cavan play and it beggars belief how any coach or manager thinks there is any future with these tactics.. On another note it is unfair to attack Deanmartins posts as he is intitled to his opinion of which most are valid... We all want to see Cavan do well but anyone who thinks the current setup with our proud County senior team is working and making progress are way of the mark... Cavan are in danger of wasting a great bunch of players with this sterile play and at the end of the day the CB must take full blame... There a big difference from managing a successful u21 side to stepping up to manage at Senior inter county level with inexperienced management . Hyland hasn't got it . He would be a great number 2 to a manager who knew what he was at and a manager who can switch things. That's his major problem. He too slow to see the problem. Every one of his interviews this past 3 years sound the same . But when he has Fitzpatrick and Donohue and Brennan telling him he's the greatest thing since sliced bread what chance have we got Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 08/02/2016 21:54:05 1823758 Link 0 |
Lads its like a broken record all this Hyland has to go stuff. We all know its not right but he is there for the year. end of. I have been reading the same posts for 2 years now. Its copy and paste. Reformation (Cavan) - Posts: 356 - 09/02/2016 17:43:21 1824137 Link 0 |
