We did lose the game by ourselves we should have went for points rather then goals at the end. we made lots of mistakes but i still feel big improvement from last week. My reference to the ref last night been brutal was not blaming him for our loss it was his inconsistany that got me, he made bad decisions both ways . The management and team have lots to improve on lots of areas to make change lets hope they do . asitis (Cavan) - Posts: 233 - 07/02/2016 11:57:15 1822995 Link 0 |
Dean, I'm feeling fine. Didn't go out last night so feeling fresh this morning. No idea if he's the best man for the job as I'm not attending. But one thing I won't do is go on a Cavan forum happy that Cavan have lost. I didn't think you could find such a person but you're a record breaker. Yes this one got away, Missed some very kickable scores and frees, we dont have a real confident free taker who can punish teams from distance , seen Barry Reilly kick 9/9 in a county final a few years ago, he is probably one of the best in ulster on a good day , where did he go? is he still on the panel? the lines man was poor, and we didnt get some important discissons,Givney, flanagan and keating struggled, mackey was for long periods in defence, he needs to be our link man and loves going forward,g mac and mossy done well as did young argue when he came on , we won some kickouts which is encouraging, but our dicisson making in the last 10 mins was very poor, points were there for the taking, but we persisted to try for the big dog and came away with nothing, if we had the experience of conor mcmanus in the last 10 mins we would have gotten over the line, going forward we still seem lost of where our inside forwards should be or not enought supporting runners when we run into trouble, on a brighter note i guess much stronger team than last year, returnees need more game time for sure, we really need a win to get some confidence and see out games, A dry day out playing with the shackles off and a win would be what the doctor ordered for the team sendithome (Cavan) - Posts: 25 - 07/02/2016 13:24:46 1823014 Link 0 |

To slow in letting the ball into the full forward line. RHF (Cavan) - Posts: 878 - 07/02/2016 13:34:22 1823020 Link 0 |
Skelling...I can't find any post where I said I was happy we lost...I'm just pointing to the fact that if we had the right man in charge, we would win more. deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 07/02/2016 14:08:12 1823031 Link 0 |
Good to get the view from a Monaghan neutral, we play a system that doesn't work, and well said Goonie, the majority of our best players are being swallowed up by it deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 07/02/2016 14:10:59 1823032 Link 0 |
Hard luck to the lads last night- it was a brave effort, a very hard fought game played in very tough conditions. There was no lack of effort from our lads but at times the pace of the game had some of our players struggling. Lacked a bit of composure and that extra half yard that hopefully will come with a bit more game time. Having said that, Derry at times looked very sleek and are as good a league team as I've seen play in Breffni in a very long time. Used the ball very well, took their goal clinically, tackled very well and showed great discipline throughout but especially in last 5 minutes. We on the other hand, having done so well to get back in a game that at one stage looked to be well out of our grasp, let the blood rush to our heads in the last 5 and should have at least made sure of an equaliser. Curious observer here, Tell us dean, because you are great to point out the wrongs, if u were made manager of the senior team in the morning, what would u change ? What would be your strongest 15, if every player in the county gave u 100% commitment ? What style would u adapt ? I'm sure lots on here would love answers to these 3 questions. No politicians answers now, 3 simple questions so 3 simple answers !! finea3 (Longford) - Posts: 63 - 07/02/2016 14:42:03 1823040 Link 0 |

We did a lot of fumbling in possession, poor passing and poor kicking, a lot of it going to the keeper's hands. We need to work on this. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 07/02/2016 15:16:30 1823048 Link 0 |

People can say what they like about Martin Reilly but anyone at game last night can see he can be a part of our failure attacking. He is a great footballer but time and time again he will not deliver the ball into space when it is on, head down soloing and soloing and eventually turning backwards and giving the opposition time to filter back. Yes Givney Keating need game time, but surely not if its going to cost us the games! Decisions are slow from the sideline. Barry won't come back because of the style of play and the treatment he got last year. Cluichepeil (Cavan) - Posts: 57 - 07/02/2016 15:53:32 1823064 Link 0 |
Cavan need to change the system it's not working too defensive. I would prefer if we lost having a go rather than waiting to be beaten cavanchamps (Cavan) - Posts: 38 - 07/02/2016 15:55:32 1823066 Link 0 |
Dean, I didn't say that you said you were happy but your post seems very chirpy. Skelling (USA) - Posts: 289 - 07/02/2016 15:59:31 1823071 Link 0 |
Finea3...Its not rocket science, we've played with 2 sweepers and a blanket defence and it hasn't worked, Martin Reilly wasted in defence, I'd play him as a 3rd midfielder, with one of the other 1/2 forwards as a sweeper, leaving 4 forwards inside, quick fast ball in with support from runners deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 07/02/2016 17:06:51 1823103 Link 0 |
Skelling...so you're admitting that Terry isn't the best man for the job? deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 07/02/2016 17:14:45 1823111 Link 0 |
shame as he had a class left foot and could spray passes around, part of a decent panel with faulker, dillon and barry tully who pushed forward, maybe terry will have challange matches set up durning the break for getting players match fit, martin reilly covered every inch of the park and played well, but again dosnt seem to be a good enough understanding with the forward line as to when and where to deliver the ball before getting over run , we look nervous going forward, but hopefully with a win under our belts they will grow in confidence, tyrone and derry are no push overs but theyre behind us now ,next stop navan sendithome (Cavan) - Posts: 25 - 07/02/2016 17:33:09 1823123 Link 0 |
Dean, the difference between you and I is that I can see both the good and bad in things. Terry Hyland has gone with a system of play that he picked when he first got the job. I'm guessing, but I'd say he looked at the players at his disposal and picked the system accordingly. The system worked and there wasn't a peep out of anyone about the style when we got to the quarter finals in 2013. 2014 was a terrible year and all of a sudden it's the system and the manager's fault. In 2015 with the introduction of McHale they tried to expand their style with the result, ironically, of being too open at the back. A good performance against Monaghan resulted in the narrowest of defeats due mainly, in my opinion, to Monaghan having a stronger and more experienced bench and the missing of a late free with Martin Reilly having being black-carded. On such things hang a game but once the likes of you decide you don't like a man then such details are conveniently left out of any discussion. We then lost to Roscommon with a number of players missing and a man less for half the game. Skelling (USA) - Posts: 289 - 07/02/2016 18:02:39 1823142 Link 0 |
