Is it the end of a wonderful era for the Cavan Gaels team ?? I don't know and only time will tell if this wonderfull group of players can re-group again.
Out of the championship at this stage is devastating for a group of players that has given so much time and effort to a Town
I feel the hurt each time I meet one of these players

The Gaels will be back.no doubt about that.

From what im hearing from my good sources they are starting to make a lot of changes on and off the field already.new chairman and senior team manager to be in place in next 4-6 weeks along with new under age development officers.dont worry about the Gaels.they will never go away.there are changes coming from the chairman right down to the kit man..

There is very little coming through at underage, and particularly at minor level, which a very important milestone for most players before progressing to senior In my day, the Gaels having to amalgamate with another team at minor level was unheard off, this was a club that won 12 minor titles between 1991 & 2010, from recollection, they've now amalgamated for the last 3/4 years.
In any case, is it any wonder why the underage is suffering, when you have people coaching that never played football in their lives, people that jumped on the bandwagon of the Gaels successes over the years.
The Gaels need to bring all the old guard back for coaching, the likes of the Reilly's, men who would give all for the club.

Your right the under-age structure needs refreshing. They have a useful u-14 team coming through at the moment. The minor team amalgamated with Killygarry for one year only and have been on their own for the last few years. Rugby is making big inroads in Cavan Town as well as Soccer and Basketball. The parish has three senior teams and one intermediate team so there is a lot of clubs and competing sports fighting out for the youngsters.
I wouldnt agree about the coaches not playing football before. Current Players Martin Dunne Jnr, Fergal Blessing, Levi Murphy,John Fortune, past players Fergal Maguire, Phillip Clarke, Mark Leddy,John McHugh to name a few.

The Reilly's are all well past retirement and have put their life into the Gael s they deserve to be able to sit back hand it over to the next generation. Times have changed and competition for kids from other sports has increased..

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next month or so but there are big changes on the way.the club have taken their eye off the under age set up in the last 6 years if you ask me.this will all change soon.i still feel that they have the best senior players in the county.are they up to the standard of some of the past greats.well that remains to be seen.

It was the older players who won the Championship for the Gaels last year,( lucky to win it) Johnston, Lyng, Dominic and Eamon Reilly. So TSmith has a point.

The jury is out on some of the younger players. Niall Murray an excellent player, others maybe not consistent

Talking to a long standing Gaels supporter and former player he said while there is no Reilly on the panel he cannot see the Gaels win another championship.
As I don't support the gaels whats the views of those of you that do. ???

The Gaels will always be competitive. Always were. The golden era is over. Teams used to be bet before they played them but that aura is gone. Still capable of winning championships and perhaps still the best team of paper but teams fancy their chances more against them. The profile of player has changed. Years ago they had a lot of big strong footballers but that has changed.

Enda King, Cathal Collins, Paurio Smith, Gavin Duffy,Nicholas Walsh, Eamon Reilly Dominic Reilly, Cormac Nelligan

Those were the players on the teams when they were dominant. The have a lighter smaller team now. I think a bit like the Cavan Senior teams, maybe 1 too many small players.

The gaels have had there day and now they are well and truly back in the pack . This year showed you can have great management and trainings but if you don't have the players you wont win !

That was one of the problems this year.they didnt have good management or good training.read above posts regarding changes.

The problem with the gaels underage structure is what's coaching them. Long gone are the day's of the respectful coach, now sadly it's all about cheating no respect for anyone and sadly what the young see the young do. Just go to underage matches and listen to what is being shouted from the side line and even the stand is it no wonder the game has dropped to a rotten disquieting level.
This is not just for the gaels this is for most clubs coaches & players alike.
Time first and foremost the coaches need to be thought how to behave and failure to do so should result in loosing their coaching badge or certificate.

The Gaels have a young team,well capable of winning more senior championships.The question really is their desire,have they the battling qualities.From what i have seen this year,the answer is a resounding no.
