I'll give it a go. The Wee county is indeed wee, they do have a shrewd manager, and a population almost twice that of Cavan's.

Population is made up of women and children as well. Not too many women playing men's county football. Let me sum it up for you. Louth has 24 clubs . Cavan has 40. So the wee county is a wee county in football terms. Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 24/05/2023 13:46:38 2481240 Link 0 |
There is 40 clubs in co Louth and a population of 130000 people and there is women and children in Cavan also.

I've definitely met women in Cavan too though? Let's just be friends and I promise not to bring facts into a social media conversations in future. You are correct with your alternative fact that having a population of 82000 as opposed to 140,000 makes no difference and Cavan with 39?? mostly rural based small parish clubs has a greater pick than a tiny county like Louth with only 24 clubs many of which are based in large urban centres and the Dublin commuter belt. It's clear that all countries statistically have an equal chance.

I find it hard to lay the total blame on Mickey Graham for the current horrible style of football Cavan are playing….I think it coincides more with him bringing ( or allowing ) Ricey McMenimen join the coaching staff… If one recalls the dying moments of our great Ulster win in 2020 Cavan were leading by a point when Thomas Galligan won a free kick in midfield… what did he do…? He launched a huge kick into the Donegal square forcing a mistake out of Patton which Madden pounced on and the rest is history… Imagine the same or similar scenario today…. where would the kick go …? back down the field.. We won't even kick the ball into our forwards now if we are 2/3pts behind let alone be ahead… it's torturous stuff to watch… We were playing very negatively when Hyland was in charge too but I think it's got progressively worse as time went on and my belief is that Ricey could be behind it…. Graham can't be exonerated from blame either as he is the Manager and he facilitates these tactics…. Something drastic has to change regardless of how this season pans out… Enough is enough ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 3029 - 24/05/2023 17:08:12 2481340 Link 0 |
There's plenty of truth in what you say there. I was in Ruislip last Saturday and not once was a ball kicked in to the full forward line. Well there was nobody there so I probably wouldn't have mattered. That game was an idea opportunity to press forward, instead we retreated and London still cut us open. Got 2 goals could have had 4. I don't get GMC out around the middle spraying lateral or backward 10 M passes to get a return to do the same again. Look how Mayo used their full forward line against Kerry Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 25/05/2023 08:44:23 2481414 Link 0 |
Louth were always a decent footballing County, just needed a decent manager to manage them and lets face it, they got a bye in the first round of Leinster, and beat a poor Westmeath and Offaly team along the way, only to be trounced by 21 points in the Final. And on the subject of population, didn't a certain parish team with a population of 500 people win a Leinster Club Championship a few years back. I'm wondering if that was because of their small population or because they had a manager who knew what he was doing? cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 636 - 25/05/2023 16:51:07 2481582 Link 0 |
I was in Ruislip and not too far from where the Cavan Management were and I can tell you that sitting back, defending and dont kick ball into the forwards were not the instructions being shouted from the sideline. These lads are senior county footballers, some of them with many years under their belt, management can pick a team and facilitate them, but when the players cross that line, then full responsibility lies with them and them only. cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 636 - 25/05/2023 16:55:47 2481585 Link 0 |
Might not have been the instructions but that's what happened. The only instruction I heard was something about getting into the scoring zone. Any idea where that would be? Just didn't see it marked out on the pitch! Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 26/05/2023 09:41:27 2481653 Link 0 |
It must have been luck because it certainly had nothing to do with who was managing them when you see the type of tripe he is overseeing and implementing now….. just had to be luck

Still you can only **** with the **** you have. I believe we have better individual footballers than Louth if they were allowed to play and express themselves

Didnt realise you were so bitter....Kilmacud Crokes with a membership of 5000, Mullinaghta parish with a population of a few hundred and a club membership of 155. That was in 2018, a year later, leads Cavan to their first Ulster Final appearance since 1997, a year after, leads them to back to back finals, the first time since the 60s and winning the first Ulster Title since 1997, its a pity previous managers werent so lucky! cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 636 - 26/05/2023 12:58:15 2481722 Link 0 |
If you say is true then this Management team have completely lost the dressing room and their time is up…If as you say the players didn't follow the manager's instructions from the line then it proves they have lost complete faith in him… them and most if not all the supporters as well…

If the Intercontinental cup was played today I wouldn't be too confident of retaining our title
