not a grear argument there fionan mcdonagh lived in stradone for years before he moved into cavan town and Adge king lived alot closer to stradone than to terry coyle park i pick better examples than these to try and back up your argument

Not sure the point you're making but it's well known the lads were well 'rewarded and incentivised to move into the parish...." and join the Gaels. It happens the country over, happens in Meath and Waterford, happens at intercounty level too. It's a well known "dirty little secret"... The gaels are masters of it in Cavan... And you're backing my point up when speaking of the older players.... Lyng and Mckiernan could live in the "parish" and still have played for their junior clubs... but they didn't... i ownder why that was.... brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 07/10/2021 18:32:42 2384813 Link 2 |
Fionnan Mc Donagh was a Galway man who's family moved to Cavan. He lived in the town a lot longer than he did in Stradone. Get your facts right. And Adge king lived in Poles that's not in Laraghs parish. Your case against the Gaels and their imports don't add up if the 2 mentioned is all you can come up with. Any body who played with the gaels from other counties lived in the town. Ie Dermot Dalton , Der Cogan , ect . And your entitled to play for any club if you live in the area. Why didn't Colm O Rourke play with Leitrim then?

Well his parents moved to Meath when he was 6, he played all his juvenile and underage football in Meath but yeah he should've moved back and played intercounty football for Leitrim... or Meath incentivised a 6 year old and his parents to relocate to Meath... you look idiotic now.. That's an awful comparison to make.. Maybe if you referenced Seanie the hurler who was heavily incentivised to move to Kildare, despite still living and working in Cavan and then returned to Cavan.... and playing a few seconds of a hurling match so he'd be able to play for Kildare the following day. That was an embarrasment for Kildare.. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 08/10/2021 11:50:28 2384883 Link 2 |
Your argument about Cavan Gaels don't stand up. You mention M Lyng and McKiernan and I explained in an earlier post their positions. Name the rest of the so called blowins ????? There plenty of players who played with various clubs in Cavan and Meath who weren't even living in the respective parishes but for some reason you failed to mention that. I can only put that down to some sort of jealousy

What would i have to be jealous about Cavan Gaels for... your now just laughable I made a point that Lyng and McKiernan both played adult football with different clubs, relocated into the gaels parish and moved to play for Cavan gaels. I made the point Michael Newman lives in the parish of Kells his whole life and choose to play with Kilmainham club, even though there's a senior club in the parish (Gael Colmcille) he choose to continue to play intermediate football with his own club. I made the point it's well known that McKiernan and Lyng were induced to switch to Cavan Gaels and that that's repeated the country over and that its a dirty little secret as to why they switched club allegiances. I said it happens in Meath, Evan Kelly moved from an junior club Drumree to a senior club Simonstown in the early noughties. It happens at intercounty level, look at any number of former Kildare players, Brian Murphy, Karl O'Dwyer, Brian Lacey, John Divilly, Cathal Sheridan, Davy Dalton, your own Seanie .... its known the tried getting Declan Browne back in his heyday.... how many of them were born and or raised in Kildare!!!!!! And sure how many Meath men have played for Cavan over the years, have you won an Ulster without a Meath man since the 50's and 60's..... Ray Carolan, Terry Farrelly, Raymond Cunningham and Oisin Kiernan, all great North Meath men So my point all along was why did Lyng and McKiernan move into the parish in the first place and then switch club allegiances.... when they could've remained with their junior clubs...... brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 08/10/2021 15:10:53 2384929 Link 2 |
You would need to ask them why they moved to the parish my point is they were living in the parish so entitled to play. Was Rory Gallagher living in Crosserlough when he played for them? Was Damien Sheridan living in Navan when he transferred from Virginia to O Mahoneys? The list goes on . So why pick on the gaels when every player who played for them lived in the vicinity and were entitled to play. That's the players own business and not the clubs fault Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 08/10/2021 15:29:39 2384932 Link 1 |
Do you still believe in the easter bunny, tooth fairy and Santa..... They were incentivised to be living in the parish..... and transferred from junior to senior clubs.... they could've stayed playing with there original clubs but didn't... wonder why that was. I didn't disagree with your point it happens, but i said Gaels have taken a huge advantage off it ;) brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 08/10/2021 17:15:02 2384947 Link 1 |

The reason is that it's normally very good players that join Cavan Gaels. It was always the case that players who moved to cavan town who felt they were not good enough would join other local clubs. So optically it annoys people from outside Cavan Gaels when they see good players joining the town club. But in GAA it is normally the case that a main town club will have a lot of blow ins, and that is the case with Cavan Gaels. Jim McDonnell, Gabriel kelly, paddy tavey, John McEntee, Dermot dalton, pat holmes, Donal buggy , Antony Forde , Martin Cassidy, Gearoid mckiernan to name a few, Finally I think bringing Micky Lyng into this list is wrong as he played minor with cavan Gaels when he moved into cavan town as a teenager. But Its good to stir up a bit of banter to slag main town club and I don't think that should stop.

Get your facts right breffni 1969 fionan mcdonagh lived in laragh first and played all his under age football from under 12 up with laragh adge king did the same so using them to back up your pathetic argument is stupid. i have no problem with players transferring for genuine reasons ie work commitements travel distance etc but dont agree with players tranferring purely for the chance to win trophies it shows no loyalty or respect for the club that spent years making them the players that they are

The rule in the 70s stated you had to be either living or working in the parish to play with a club . Mc Donagh was neither when he played with Laragh . Or lavey Laragh as it was then. Any player who ever played with the Gaels was either living or working in the parish. End of argument. Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 09/10/2021 16:10:08 2385026 Link 0 |

i never mentioned any names i pointed out how stupid some of your examples were to back up your argument

also on your point that you had to be living in a parish to play with that team such nonscence so if you worked in dublin you could not play with your local team what are you smoking

I'm talking about blowins . You either had to be living or working in the parish. I'm not talking about someone from the parish.

I think its clear now - the Gaels have been Cavan's greatest in the past 20 years, another semi-final having eased through the group stages. cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 636 - 12/10/2021 13:39:45 2385357 Link 0 |

Yes, I believe there's a few with tattoos, one has tattoo of 10 cups, representing each championship they won in the last 20 years!
