Cavan Vs Down

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Well done lads. Unbelievable courage and collective team spirit shown in that second half. We can really hurt teams when we are in that mindset. Thought faulkner was immense throughout among a string of fine performances from various members of team especially when the game seemed to be slipping away from us. Special mention to the subs that came on conroy had an understated impact and obviously Conor madden. Leadership from all corners when it was required brought great joy to a very proud cavanman.
Donegal wont allow us to get a foothold as easy as down so need a performance from the get go next sunday so plenty to work on. Cavan abù

Well done Mickey and the lads, the whole county is on a high. Im seeing leaders emerging on this team in every line. We left it late but once we got going it was pure grit and hard work that won it ! Donegal a different beast but sure we have nothing to lose. Lads getting lost in the occasion of an ulster final in front of 30000 fans won't be a problem this year, you never know CMON the Breifne !!

OMG what a second half thought we were dead and buried we had been awfull. Mickey graham must be some operator them players died for their county today and they can hold their heads high whatever happens next week talk about nail biting. It's time to stop debating Mickey graham he needs to be allowed to get on with bringing this group of players forward with a few additions we can become a good side When you hear Mickey hart praising the Cavan players for the collective tackling in the second half we must be on the right lines as his Tyrone sides were masters at it so something is changing in the Cavan mentality and that's credit to Mickey and his back room team. All Cavan supporters want to see is the players giving their all and leaving nothing behind like all the top teams do on a regular basis there Two years ago Cavan would have lost a game like today but there was fight and pride there today look at the scenes at the end total togetherness.Well done lads.

There's no debate on mickey outside some eejits who should be taken away by men in white coats. Well done again to the lads. Can we put 70 minutes together to give Donegal a challenge.

Hard luck to Down. Played a fantastic first half.
Momentum is a strange thing. When you've had it and lose it, it's hard to get it back. Maybe you emptied the tank too much in the first half and ran out of steam a bit.

Game played in good sporting spirit, as per the tradition between us. Now we have to face Donegal. It's a huge task.

My hope is that we we show the same defiant character that served us so well against Monaghan, Antrim and yesterday. Anything can happen, but it would be a major surprise if we come through again. Regardless, what we all want to see is Cavan standing up to them and keeping the hope alive.

For the third time this year this group have come back from an almost impossible position, once in the League against Westmeath and now twice in the Championship. Approaching half time yesterday with a 10 points deficit, Donegal awaiting in the final and playing for the fifth weekend in a row it would have been so easy to give up.

Huge credit to all for putting pride back in the jersey after the horror show against Tyrone last summer. Lets hope that momentum that winning brings will help produce a huge performance next weekend. We are rank outsiders but we have shown in patches over the pack couple of weeks that we are capable of playing really good football.

Well, at half time yesterday, I never thought that Cavan would be waking up this morning in preparation for an Ulster final.
It was just simply a game of two halves, I don't think I will ever see Cavan as bad in one half and as good in another.
They were stuck to the ground, laboured and some of them been honest did not look like they would make a good club team in that first half. You have to single out P Faulkner tho, absolutely outstanding throughout. Apart from Faulkner and martin reilly in that first half and R Galligan, anyone could have came to the line. However, I do think they made the right substitutions at half time, although Stephen Smith was lucky to stay on as long as he did.

Second half, everything came of Madden and If you change the game like that, you deservedly win MOTM. What a score from the sideline, reminded me of Conor McManus in Ulster championship last year v Tyrone, Down could just not handle him and he was involved in most of the Cavan scores. Totally different team second half, mckiernan and galligan came to life and Galligan and madden are a good combo together.

What do you do for the final? Do you start Madden? no point bringing him on if the game if out of reach like last year, he will be a marked man now tho so we are going to need other forwards to step up to the mark!
I think Donegal are even better than last year so I would worry but rather be there than not!!

Well that was absolutely fantastic.

We were gone at halftime, nothing was working in attack or defence, we should have been out of sight.
I dont know what happened at halftime but it was a different team completely, heroic stuff in the second half, everybody tackling like men possessed, dominating kickouts, lads putting their bodies on the line and busting themselves foe the jersey. Was stirring to watch.

The change of shape definitely helped, the twin tower threat of t.galligan and madden inside worked a treat. We were dominant on the down kickout and amped up the intensity all across the pitch. Jason snuffed out johnson, Gearoid started cleaning out the kickouts and we got our matchups sorted.

Special mention for faulkner again who was a collosus, my motm, he was absolutely everywhere as usual.

Look, we are in bonus territory now, we wont beat donegal who imo will win the AI but lets have a good cut.
All we want as fans is to see lads busting themselves for the jersey and we seen that in spades v monaghan and down.
Great to get a life in the dreary lockdown days.

Mickey pulled off an incredible achievement with Mullineachta, and it wasn't a fluke. He built them up to it over a few seasons.

He in his 2nd year with us and has us in consecutive Ulster finals.

He's smart, tactically astute, and he lives and breaths Cavan. He knows what he's at. I wouldn't swap him for any other current intercounty manager in the country.

There is great character in this Cavan team, and they are a dark horse for the next round in my eyes. After Cork/Kerry, all bets are off. Some very tough, hard fought wins in this championship and I hope it stands to them when they meet Donegal in the ulster final. All the best to the Breifne from one of your great Royal neighbours! :D

It's been a very enjoyable couple of games but we need to keep our feet firmly on the ground. We're in an ulster final again but we've not won anything. I see alot of people saying that they hope we put it up to donegal, sod that. Unless we win on Sunday this year will have been a complete failure.

Absolutely, his championship record in Ulster speaks for itself . He has 5 wins in 2 years .. terry had 3 wins in 5 seasons and Matty never won in Ulster.
Terry's league record was outstanding over his term but he struggled in tight Ulster matches. Mickey has the cuteness and knowhow to win them tight games. At the end of the day championship is when it matters .

...by the way how bad was the sunday game analysis on the cavan game last night.
I dont expect much from them anyway as bbc and sky are way better but it genuinely seemed like colm o'rourke and cavanagh hadnt watched the game.

Spent about 5 minutes looking for some controversy in the cavan penalty decision, didnt bother acknowledging that the down goal shouldnt have stood.

Lazy, arrogant punditry after they spent about 10 minutes at start of the show sticking the boot into Mickey Harte

Im just glad i have sky these days. Sunday game is a joke

Cavanagh and Harte not on speaking terms apparently. It went sour after Cavanagh made remarks in his book

Unless Colm o 'rourke some of these other pundits are watching Kerry Mayo Dublin Donegall or Tyrone they have no interest it's like the pundits on the premier league only interested in the big teams and o 'rourke never has anything good to say about Cavan he's so boring like watching paint dry money for old rope.

Fantastic result. Maybe now talk will end of who should be in the panel etc. and we'll actually appreciate the fully committed lads that are.
I've actually no problem with lads opting out. Intercounty football isn't for everyone, it's a big commitment, but it's about time others realised that and supported the lads that do have the willpower for it.
