Cavan Vs Down

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

So we've gone from being totally written off, to being expected to hammer a team who beat us in five of the last six games we played to being totally written off again. As the saying goes, things are never as good or as bad as they seem. The bookies have the odds fairly tight, Down 4/6 and Cavan 6/4.

The odds are about right based on what we saw at the weekend.

We simply have to do something about the manner in which teams are able to cut us open. Surely it's time for Clarke to take the full back role and Faulkner to take the centre back position. If we can tighten up the middle of our back line and our forwards have a better conversion rate then we can get across the line.

Has anyone seen or heard from Seanorinn since the championship started?

Killian Clarke cannot tackle - watch him in any of the games. will give away more frees than awarded against his opponent

I wouldn't be surprised.

It's quiet clear that he only has something to say when Cavan are beat so hopefully we wont be hearing from him soon on here.

Defenders will normally give away more frees than there direct opponent but i would agree about the two lads mentioned they do give away a fair few more than other defenders.

Clarke is a good reader of the game tho and very comfortable in possession.

Can't see what Brady brings at all.

Not sure who you're trying to kid, between this post and the one on the main forum. Let Kerry keep the cute hoorism. Cavan are a decent side, they'll not be beat by more than double scores like you say here.

That score line would be great ,But it wont happen , this is a 50 50 game and we would be delighted with a 1 point win

Midfield might be too attack minded

We will have a chance in this game, but we can't let Down have there own kick outs unchallenged, Our defence is opened up easily because it's our defenders who is up doing the scoring , Cavan still hasn't found a natural centre back. On Sunday we will need Killian clarke, Faulkner And Mc Loughlin in the full back line. Hopefully the ball bounces in our favour and we get to another Ulster Final

I have watched and enjoyed many different and exciting Down teams over the years, usually at our expense. They always had a confidence and a swagger like the Dubs, and they played similar flair football.

However, last time we played them in Brewster I was shocked with their play. No other way to describe it but - pure dirt. It was awful and yes it takes two to tango but the Down discipline during and after the game was appalling.

Looks like they're back on form again, at least in terms of their second half style of play against Fermanagh. Is this a good thing or a bad thing for us? I mean, last time they clearly wanted a row, they got it and they lost it. Can we cope with them in an open game? For me, that would be the ideal.
