Replying To cavanman47:  "Roscommon were at home with a very generous ref, off the back of a provincial win, and were still comfortably beaten.

Cork lost by 13.

We are better than Cork, we are at least on a par with Roscommon and by god we are a good bit better than Meath.

I'm not excusing the terrible performance by our lads last weekend but had we drawn Clare or Laois, we'd be there and we'd be competing."
dont cod yourself. We have proven in the last 2 games what we are like in competitive games against the top teams. How come Cork and Roscommon can put it up to the big guns and not roll over. What's different about Cavan ? What are we lacking ?

Hold on. .cork rolled over as soon as Dublin upped it a gear. They capitulated in fact.

Roscommon were at home with a generous ref and never looked like winning.

I'm not saying we're in Tyrone or Dublin's league. We're not. But we ARE in Roscommon's and IMO we are better than Cork.

Perspective seems to have gone out the window after we lost to 2 of the top 5 teams in the country. It's somewhat understandable given the unacceptable performance v Tyrone.

But if we hadn't met Armagh in this year's championship, I can guarantee the majority on this forum would claim that we aren't as good as them.

Do you still think we are a lot better than Meath?? If so based on what evidence?
Both teams performance against Donegal..

Or the final scoreline of each game maybe.

Ah here... Meath were in the game against Donegal but didn't maintain it.. the Cavan game was over at half time.. A. 5pt defeat should have been 10 if Donegal had really pressed on. Cavan chipoed in with scores when thee was nothing to play for..

And by the same token, when the game was in the melting pot, Meath were found wanting.

Look, I'm not going to big our lads up. We were well beaten both days. And the attitude in the Tyrone game was unforgivable! It might be the last time some of those lads wear the cavan jersey, it really was that bad.

But I'm also not going to use games against 2 of the top teams in the country as the barometer of where we are at compared to the Meaths of this world.

More delusion.

How can Cavan ever expect to improve with attitudes like this?

On a par with Roscommon? Good one. You mean the same Roscommon that have won two of the last three Connacht titles? In a province with the team that are widely acknowledged as the best team to never win an AI. The same Roscommon that have beaten us on six of the last seven occasions?

Better than Cork? I'd have us level with them. At least they gave Dublin a game and didn't throw in the towel when the draw was made.

Agree we are better than Meath.

Footballers with a winning never say die attitude.
After the Ulster final we celebrated the fact we got there. Tyrone knuckled down after the defeat to Donegal. They're in the super 8s and we're left scratching our heads with that feeling we've made no progress.

There is no doubt that some Cavan fans are delusional. Better than Cork, Meath on a par with Ros. We might match those teams in the league but when championship comes around they are different but we are the same. For God sake waken up. We made an ulster final because we did not have to play donegal or Tyrone. We are as far away as ever

Meath put in a far better show than we did against Donegal yesterday. The game was in doubt until the final 15 minutes.
Our boys have an inferiority complex against the Donegal's and Tyrone's of this world.

.. You said initially Cavan are a good bit better then Meath. Now you're saying you're not comparing the performance of Meath against Donegal to the Cavan game. Performing against better teams is how you're judged..

If the game was going to last only 55mins, Donegal would've been 9 points clear after 55mins.

But games last 75mins+ these days. Donegal are a top team and they have excellent game management ability. We don't, nor do Meath. But over 75+ mins, we lost by 5, they lost by 9.

One poster used the face Roscommon have beaten us 6 out of 7 games. . . .when is the last time Meath beat us!? Or does that narrative not suit your argument because it doesn't run down our lads enough?

Your judged on how you perform regardless of the result. Fight for a 50/50 ball. Show some willing, look interested. Bit of pride in the jersey.
We showed none of that against Tyrone. Cork , Meath, Roscommon all showed those qualities while beaten.
We showed nothing against Tyrone.

Different posters are using different stats from before the Tyrone game to suit their argument for or against defending the team.

But I think the key point is that while we were out-thought and outclassed by Donegal in a fairly admirable defeat, that didn't quell the hope generated in Ulster that we were moving towards the top table.

That hope was extinguished by the Tyrone game, which was not a even a bad performance, it was a non-performance, which is real kick in the stones for fans, and players I'm sure.

For Mayo yesterday in their bad defeat to Kerry, they had just the week to recover and have serious injury issues in the squad. We didn't have those problems and had no reason to not be hungry going into the Tyrone game.

Can't help thinking that we had a lucky escape from super 8's,
There is no way Cavan would have put up the fight Cork did and they still ended up losing heavily.
Do Cavan have a sports psychologist working with the team.
We need to build up the mental strength .After 10 minutes in the Tyrone game the body language said we just want this game to be over.
I found it odd that the party bus was rolled out when we had one guaranteed match left in the season and it also points out the thinking in the set up that our race was run.

The Ulster Final was over as a contest after 20 minutes maybe even less, the Tyrone game was over as a contest in 15 minutes. Donegal took pity on us after the first 20 minutes and beat us by 5, Tyrone did not and beat us by plus 10. The gap between the top two in Ulster and the rest is huge.

Roscommon, Cork and Meath all showed some level of character and heart over the weekend, against Tyrone we failed to show that.

It's a long winter ahead with little to look forward to in 2020!

All I can say is that you're right.
Form is starting to work out a little.
Armagh ran Mayo close and probably should have beaten them and Kerry then thumped Mayo.
Leaves Mayo Galway Cavan Meath Armagh Monaghan and Clare all around similar level.
So we now have the four best teams
Dublin, Kerry, Donegal and Tyrone.

cavanforsam: has hit the nail on the head and it's great to see some people have common sense.
====================================================
11 teams where are the rest like Derry Down Cork Tipperary Limerick Roscommon
Laois Kildare Longford Westmeath even Fermanagh Waterford I would say the remainder should be easy enough London Leitrim Carlow Wicklow Antrim Wexford "BUT" ???????
I cannot believe that you believe that Cavan can beat all of the following Derry Down Cork Tipperary Limerick Meath Armagh Mayo Roscommon Kildare even Longford Westmeath Monaghan & Fermanagh well I expect they might be able to beat Fermanagh for they are not a happy camp right now we will see net February. Cavan have to play Armagh Fermanagh Kildare Westmeath Clare Roscommon and Laois in Division 2
