Some bizarre results in the Junior championship today mean Denn have dropped to 9th and miss out on the quarter finals. The Munchies somehow hammered Killinkere by 14 points to supersede Denn's score difference.
Was anyone at this game or know if Killinkere put out a 2nd team? For a team who finished top of Division 2 to lose by 14 points to a team who finished in the bottom half of Division 3 is almost unbelievable. Killinkere now face Knockbride in the quarters so it's not as if they gained an easier draw by losing today.

Replying To The Quiet Man: "I was at another game that started at one so unless I split myself in two it was impossible for me to be at both games like you. I might go and watch Crosserlough V Ramor at 7 tonight depends on how I feel health wise. Introduce yourself I will be over on the terrace should I go." You never came over to me. Even after I sorted the lights for the last 15 minuets.

They finally manned up , put the effort in and played some fantastic football to which Kilinkere had no answer. Only Killinkere can advise if they were up for it or not. They should have been as they met in the championship last year as well and Killinkere only won by a few late scores to get over the line. Killinkere supporters at the game said they were only down one unavailable starting player as were the munchies. Mountnugent V's Munchies very much a 50 / 50 game, the way the draw worked out for both teams to date fed into the placings in the end. Shannon Gaels scraped over the line by 2 points in the first game after munchies missed a lot of scores and knockbride had the benefit of munchies missing an injury time penalty to get over the line against them. Game should be a cracker.

Believe Drumgoon hammered 13 man Killishandra who were already out by 15 points to subsequently Cornafean to ninth place. Don't think the reds will be buying their friendly neighbours a pint anytime soon.

For a championship that looked likely to be between the three division 2 teams - Killinkere, Denn and Knockbride, there'll now only be one Division 2 team in the semi's. I'd slightly favour the top 4 in the table to come through their respective games but will be little more than a kick of a ball between them.

A tough weekend on the prediction and accumulator front.
Outside of what appears to be a very loose call picking Swad to beat Bailieborough and perhaps Killygarry to beat Kingscourt, I think a lot of the results at the weekend could not have been foreseen.
On the two most "suspicious" results, I don't think Killeshandra can shoulder much blame as they are probably focusing on the relegation playoff at this stage having been more or less out already, and 22 points for Drumgoon is no easy feat to rack up in any situation. I'm afraid that Cornafean have only themselves to blame as they obviously didn't do enough in their own games.
Although Drumgoon, now face the nervous wait to see if Ballinagh can keep them in the competition by not losing to Ramor B's by 15 points or more.
On the Killinkere result, that is much harder to fathom when you hear they had near a full team out. I have seen Munterconnaught once or twice over the last few years, and they are a strong and athletic team but have a few busy forwards that are not necessarily natural finishers and can kick a lot of wides. Perhaps it was a day that everything just clicked?
If that was the case then Killinkere will be worried, however you would still have to harbour some suspicion that the Denn result was being monitored with KK seeing them as a major threat, which again, would be only Denn's fault for not doing enough themselves. But only Killinkere will know that I suppose. Heavyweight clash with Knockbride now, and at least one team who was unfancied at the start of the c'ship will make the final now. I would make T'port my dark horses and finalists now but Junior looks to have come into line with the intermediate as a very tight and unpredictable competition also.
Predictions for next weekend below:
SFC Round 4 draw: Lacken v Ramor United - Lacken by 1 Kingscourt v Shercock - Shercock by 1 (No point in starting to tip K'scourt at this late stage) Gowna v Killygarry - Gowna by 5 Lavey v Cootehill - Lavey by 14 Mullahoran v Crosserlough - Crosserlough by 11 Cavan Gaels v Castlerahan - Castlerahan by 4
JFC Quarter-finals: Mountnugent v Munterconnacht - Munterconnaught by 1 Redhills v Templeport - Templeport by 2 Drung v Shannon Gaels - Shannon Gaels by 4 Killinkere v Knockbride - Killinkere by 3

They have a good young team who play good football. This was the strongest team they had out all year as they were missing players for various reasons. They were short 5 players on Sunday and 3 of these would be on the team. They may be a bit young this year but if they stick together they are a team for the future. Mountnugent will pose a physical challenge and it will be interesting to see if they are ready for that.

I can't understand why would Killenkere have "Little or no interest in winning the game" as a result of not winning they have been paired with Knockbride who have a great incentive to get revenge from 2 weeks ago a very interesting Quarter Final or did they not mind who they got in the Quarter Final

1 Castlerahan GAA 3 2 0 1 5 2 Kingscourt Stars 3 2 0 1 5 3 Gowna 3 2 1 0 4 4 Crosserlough 3 2 1 0 4 5 Cavan Gaels 3 2 1 0 4 6 Ramor United 3 2 1 0 4 7 Lacken GAA 3 1 1 1 3 8 Lavey 3 1 1 1 3 9 Searcóg 3 1 2 0 2 10 Killygarry GAA Club 3 1 2 0 2 11 Mullahoran GFC 3 0 3 0 0 12 Cootehill Celtic GAA 3 0 3 0 0
Updated league table above. Interested in seeing what kind of squads that will be played by the teams that are already through. Correct me if I'm wrong but only teams on 5 points are guaranteed a quarter final place? Would expect Lavey to beat Cootehill which will put them through on 5 points. Lacken, Killygarry and Shercock all need wins to have a chance to go through and are all playing teams on 4 points or more. Killygarry could very possibly beat Gowna if they have a full team to pick from, Kingscourt are already through on 5 points but will not want to hand points to Shercock in what will be a local derby. Lacken need at least a point against Ramor but may go through on 3 if Killygarry and Shercock lose. They are without T Galligan through suspension which will be a tough ask for them but not impossible.
Think Rahan, Kingscourt, Crosserlough, Gaels, Gowna, Ramor, Lavey, Lacken to make the quarters

If I was Kingscourt and Castlerahan, I wouldn't be too fussed about getting to 7 points, and would put resting lads ahead of winning as there are no easy quarter finals whoever you get.
The same would probably apply to teams on 4 points and have a good score difference like the Gaels and Crosserlough, They just need to avoid a hammering.
I think Castlerahan have the squad to pip the Gaels who might rest a few as well or whip lads off when a hammering is out of the question, but Kingscourt would have less strength in depth and I think would want to be resting a few, so I fancy Shercock to win that narrowly and pip Lacken to the 8th spot now.

Replying To IamADragon: "I don't fully understand it either but it's clear that's what happened" Were the junior fixtures last week all played at the same time? I know some of the intermediate games were played between Saturday and Sunday which may have contributed to some skeptical score lines. With all the senior games at 6 on Saturday it should minimize any discrepancies but you can never be sure. The situation of some of the top teams fielding weakened teams may effect who takes the last few quarter final spots which I feel is a downfall to the current system.

Corlough's score difference is truly astonishing. An average losing margin of 28 points?
Someone mentioned earlier on this thread that they were packing it in as a club, can anyone confirm?

How do you know they didnt care about this game? Are you saying that because the Munchies won thats proof that Killinkere didnt care. Are you a member of the Killinkere management? The Killinkere manager didnt look like a man who didnt care on the line on Sunday. Killinkere were missing a few players but the Munchies were missing 5. Its not a good idea to go out in any championship game not caring. Even if they were missing a few players you would imagine that a Div 1 side like Killinkere would beat the Munchies. Killinkere will need to care a lot in every Div 1 league game they play in 2020.
