Replying To IamADragon:  "I still think the Gaels are the team to beat, they have the best 15 and strongest bench. Last Sunday in a must win game they could afford to drop Martin Dunne and have Jelly injured in the warmup (2 of their most key forwards from last year) and still win by 24 points.

Castlerahan probably will be there or thereabouts again, I'm not sure I agree with your strength in depth claim though. They also seem to be having major difficulties in the full back line and with their goalkeeping situation.

Ramor got James Mcenroe back which should help tighten up a leaky defence, a lot depends on Ado Cole tho, is he fit? He came off injured in the last 2 games anyway, he's their key man.

Crosserlough look to be moving well, a lot of fast direct players, I feel tho that it's too early for them this season, their time will come though.

Gowna like crosserlough have a lot of fantastic young players and they will be a force but maybe not this season.

Lacken need to have all their key men fit and firing if they are to be contenders, if they have then they could well win it out or make a final at least.

Lavey have some nice footballers but I don't get the feeling that there's a senior championship in them.

Kingscourt, they still have some terrific footballers and I expect they'll have a plan for Castlerahan and may even beat them, but I feel that we may have already seen the best out of this bunch and another senior title may be out of reach."
I agree with a lot of what your saying here. For me Gaels and Castlerahan are probably on a par at the moment and nobody at all would be surprised if this is the final. I just hope if it is that Castlerahan come out with a better attitude to it than last year (probably the worst final in decades).

After them two I think their is a group of about 4 or 5 who can really have a big say yet in the championship. Crosserlough, Ramor, Lacken and Gowna would all fancy themselves against each other and that level of competitiveness is fantastic.

There is a huge opportunity for the likes of the Lough, Lacken or Gowna to make a final and although some may feel they are not of the standard of the top two I would love to see one of these teams win a championship and put up a challenge to the usual names like the Gaels and Castlerahan every year.

Lavey v LAcken - Can see Lavey winning this as Lacken have been awful last few games and missing big names.Lavey by 3
Gowna v Gaels - Gowna good young team but Gaels experience to win out.Gaels by 3
Castlerahan v Kingscourt - would be very surprised to see anything other than a victory for Ballyduff men as Kingscourt have got very luck with who they were drawn against and when they did play a decent team they were bet. Rahan by 8
Ramor v Xlough - this will be a tight affair with xlough going well and ramor scraping through, surely ramor have to click into gear soon and think they will just have enough but if they dont click wont be surprised to see them bet. hopefully xlough dont let nerves get them like last year. Ramor by 1.

Of the teams that do qualify will certainly be looking for the winners of the Lacken v Lavey game though to play in the semis. Would be great to see if xlough & Lavey/Lacken win and be drawn the same side would be great to see one of them in a championship final and make the Gaels v Castlerahan a cracker of a semi.

Replying To SwadMan11:  "The format it is in at the minute is unfair in my opinion. To think that a team could play the bottom 4 teams in a division compared to another team who may have to play 4 of the top teams in the division, the score difference will obviously subside the other. Cootehill will feel very hard done by because Lacken must have put out a weakened side to be beating by that much. Either that, or they simply didn't care because they were already through.

I was at that Cootehill game yesterday and what a game it was. Two teams who went for it from the word go. No defensive systems in place. Martin Reilly's free kick taking was exceptional. Plenty of players from both teams impressed massively. The Cootehill midfielder had a whale of a game in the first half.

As for Castlerahan, I think it is very clear to anyone watching senior football this year that they definitely threw that game as they where in danger of getting Cavan Gaels. I don't mean any disrespect to Ballinagh but come on."
I definately dont think they threw the game as i was at it and they were winning up until the end and bellinagh got a fisted goal. I would more say it was lack of motivation from Castlerahan as they had qualified already and probably had there minds set on the quarter finals this weekend. the win helped bellinagh as they moved off the bottom of the table and are playing killygarry instead of cootehill so id say that was more the case that Bellinagh had some pride to play for more than Castlerahan.

A couple of very surprising results yesterday, fair play to bridge, they obviously had a game plan an executed it perfectly. Baileboro seem to have caught Laragh on the hop and i think they missed their chance last night. These massive underdogs tend to only get 1 chance at upsetting the big boys so i expect Laragh to come through the replay comfortably

Poor quality from Kingscourt last night. after a good start they got only 1 point from play in 50 minutes football. the result was not a surprise but I had hoped to see a better contest at this stage of the championship.

Outstanding result for Gowna today, I had them down as dark horses pre tournament and it looks like now they are one of the favourites. Gaels looked unstoppable last year but perhaps the hunger wasn't there as much this season? If Ramor are beaten today we will be guaranteed a fresh name on the trophy in October, Gowna of course have won it on many occasions but not in a good long while

Replying To cavanblueman:  "Ahem....I hate to boast, but didn't I tell you to write off the Gaels at your own peril.

Looks like we found our mojo, it's now down to the rest to put it up to us.

That new Breffni Park sod looks very inviting."
Just thought this was a good chance to bring up this message.

It's a pity you'll have to wait till next year to feel that Breffni sod.

Fair play to Gowna for shutting up you narrow minded Gaels folk

Very interesting semi final draw in the senior, crosserlough v gowna will be very interesting, Castlerahan should overcome the winner of lavey v lacken and get into another final which they'll probably win, all these big signing they've made is paying off for them. Pity Cuchulainns and Laragh will meet in the intermediate semi final, would have made for an interesting final. Killinkere should win the junior

Replying To cavanblueman:  "Another Senior Championship for the Gaels I think, based on current league form, I cant see anyone stopping them and they're still in 2nd gear.

A good bet on them winning Ulster this year too."
Which Gaels for Ulster? Enniskillen?

Replying To cavanblueman:  "Yes, Lacken are unbeaten in 2018, but you cant compare that to the Gaels unbeaten run in the league and the championship in 2017, and unbeaten run to date.

Lacken are nowhere near the Gaels standard, lets face it, there's no team in Cavan near their standard, and I can tell you now, no team in Cavan will reach their standard this year. Come Championship, they'll be even better that they were last year, and in my opinion, they'll stroll to another Championship win. And thats not being cocky, thats merely the truth."
Even worse :)

Five still standing after the weekend and from the outside looking in it's great to see a complete change at the top table. It can only be good! Let's hope some new talent emerges to help county cause as there is no going back to the future!

Credit where credits due, Gowna fully deserved their win yesterday, Gaels with the exception of the Lacken match have been in very poor championship form, they'll be disappointed but no overly surprised to be out - but no doubt they'll come again like they did last year, and indeed for the last 10 years out of 17.

It will make for two good semi-finals though, Castlerahan might be favorites, but it certainly not a given, and no doubt all the other teams will be feeling they can do it. It will make for an interesting final, but you'd have to say the Castlerahan will feel its their year with their main rivals gone.

Just to be clear, are you tipping Castlerahan?

Just I want to be sure you are so I can go out and put my money on one of the other team. Lol.
