Replying To doratheexplorer:  "They tore into Monaghan and showed that Monaghan were over rated. We stood of them and broke far too slow. We have nobody in our full forward line who is an outlet for the kick pass like Down but do on bench and a fully fit McVeety. Tyrone are a different animal and will beat them in my opinion by at least 6 points. And I think it was 19 points difference last year."
Whether Tyrone beats them is irrelevant.
They have shown massive improvement from last year and really that all any supporter wants to see in his side..

Replying To sceptical:  "Defensive nonsense? They had 14 players behind the ball for most of the game. In the last ten minutes they had 15 behind the ball. They caught monaghan on the break."
Having 14 men behind the ball doesn't equate to playing defensive football if you attack when you're in possession as Down did.

I liked the way Down broke from defence at speed yesterday. Reminded me of Linden, Mc Cartan and Blaney from the 90's.
It made me think about who our speed merchants were. Maybe McVeety and Murray. Down broke fast and played the kick pass into space for the wing forwards to receive while anytime we seemed to break against Monaghan we stopped and then went lateral allowing them to get back to cover.
I prefer the Down way because it works.

Their kick pass was into their full forward line where they had great ball winners. Something we lack.

That's because they kick it in quick to their forwards ... O Donoghue , McManus and Cooper wouldn't get a ball in our forward line because it wouldn't be kicked in in time... For some insane reason our out field players wait for the opposition to all get back before they mount an attack... mind boggling tactics and clueless coaching...!!!

When Monaghan had the ball they tackled like demons and but for a few dodgy frees given by a poor sub ref to let Monaghan back in the game they would have won more easily..."
Oh yeah your right. Which is why forwards such as the two johnsons were playing in the half back line?

They're all quality players you named. If we had them you wouldn't but kick it into them.

For the last 4/5 years Cavan players are programmed like robots and will not kick the ball into the foreward line regardless of who is in there.... Horrible stuff to watch and it generally produces horrible results..!!!

The All-Ireland Championship Round 2B Football and Round 1 Hurling draws will take place next Monday morning, June 26 on RTÉ Radio One after the 8.30 news.

The Round 2B football draw involves the four winners from Round 1B (Cavan/Offaly, Armagh/Fermanagh, Wexford/Limerick and Carlow/London) against the defeated "B" side provincial semi-finalists (Westmeath/Dublin, Down/Monaghan, Tipperary and Leitrim). These four games will take place on the weekend of July 8 and 9.

A separate draw will be made for home advantage and where two teams have met previously in this year's provincial championship the winner of the provincial game shall have home advantage.

I was only listening on the radio but it sounds like Offaly were as good as us in the first half , we got exposed at the back a few times, then we hit a spree early in the 2nd half but threatened to get into trouble in the end. Only one of the starting forwards scored from play , Mc kiernan shines at this level and we needed him . Our key advantage over offaly a division 4 team is primarily fitness . A win is a win but difficult to be getting too optimistic.

Still waiting for McKiernan to do it in a big game.
