Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Mullahoran was packed to capacity and overflowing with sorrow for the funeral in May 2008 of 20-year-old Lucas O'Reilly. As the popular young man was laid to rest, heartbreaking scenes were witnessed throughout the parish where he had made such a strong impression during his short time amongst us. Guards of Honour were formed by the local Mullahoran GFC, St Joseph's hurling club, Erne Eagles Rounders and uniformed schoolchildren. Lucas was well-known and extremely popular as an outgoing young man in the area, where the GAA played a big part in his life. In gaelic games, he was equally adept outfield or between the posts and he was the toast of Mullahoran one year when he netted the wining goal in an U14 championship final.
