The sudden, untimely death of Mrs Veronica Sharkey (nee Brady) in May 2008 caused widespread sadness in Drumalee and her native Mullahoran. Veronica - former chairperson of Cavan Town Council and Cavan County Council - was a member of a Mullahoran family steeped in GAA tradition and was a founder member of the Mullahoran ladies football club, for whom she played in the '70s and '80s. She was also involved in setting up the ladies organisation on a national basis. She was a dedicated fan of the Dreadnoughts and also supported Drumalee, with whom her husband Pat was prominent. The attendance at Veronica's funeral included members of Mullahoran GFC, Cavan County Board and ladies football as well as officials and members of Cavan County Council and Cavan Town Council.
