From Lackenmore, John Tighe was a native of Tuam, County Galway. Very active in all aspects of local community life, he trained many underage teams on behalf of the local GAA club, Denn GFC, down through the years. John was founding chairman of Castlerahan / Denn ladies GAA club and was an ardent supporter of Galway and Cavan intercounty teams.
