Denning, Des

Des's sudden death on September 1st last came as a great shock to the local business and sporting world.

Des had his roots in Billis, Virginia, and was the youngest of a family of five born to Michael and Annie Denning.

Interestingly, his birth came on the day Cavan played Meath in the All-Ireland final, causing his father to miss the home birth of his son!

His upbringing was steeped in the tradition of the GAA and his days as a boarder in St. Pat's College, Cavan cemented his love of Gaelic games.

When at home in his time off school, Des togged out with Ramor United, winning county honours with them.

When later working in the insurance business in Dundalk from 1978 onwards, Des developed a great relationship with his then boss and legendary Louth GAA figure, Nick Marry.

Des is survived by his partner Regina O'Hare; brothers, Michael, Sean and Brendan; sister May; sisters-in-law, Anne and Kathleen; nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Des' funeral mass took place at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dundalk town.
