St Brigid’s (Roscommon) flexed their considerable muscle against St Mary’s (Sligo) this afternoon to book their place into the semi-finals of the Connacht club senior football championship.
It finished 2-24 to 0-9 at Dr Hyde Park, where Ben O’Carroll and Bobby Nugent netted the goals for last year’s All-Ireland runners-up.
O’Carroll’s goal saw the holders open up a 1-6 to 0-3 lead by the 20th minute and Nugent would rattle the Sligo champions’ net three minutes later.
Having carried in a 2-8 to 0-4 lead at half-time, Damien Mulligan’s men added points from Conor Hand and Brian Derwin early in the restart to increase their lead to a dozen.
Eli Rooney got a two-point back for St Mary’s but they’d be comfortably brushed aside by their Roscommon counterparts who cruised towards another provincial semi-final where they’ll play either Salthill-Knocknacarra (Galway) or Ballinamore SOH (Leitrim) in seven days’ time.
