Kobe McDonald’s return to Mayo has given rise to speculation that he could make a surprise appearance for Crossmolina in the county SFC.
The 18-year-old All-Ireland winner is back on home soil, just over two weeks after embarking on a professional career in the AFL with St Kilda. His return coincided with the issuing of the Leaving Cert results on Friday, while he was an interested spectator at Lahardane MacHales’ Mayo IFC clash against Louisburg on Sunday afternoon.
Lahardane won by 0-18 to 1-12 and their team featured a number of Kobe’s former classmates from Gortnor Abbey Secondary School. It now remains to be seen if the teenage sensation’s new Aussie Rules club will allow him to line out for Crossmolina in their final Mayo SFC group match against Mayo Gaels on the weekend after next.
The Deel Rovers opened their Moclair Cup campaign with a 1-26 to 0-22 win over Ballintubber before drawing 0-17 to 1-14 with Aghamore in Round 2 last Friday evening.
