Ballygunner and Fourmilewater moved into the last four of the Waterford senior hurling championship thanks to victories at Fraher Field yesterday (Saturday).

For Ballygunner, a 1-19 to 1-11 win over Lismore stretched their unbeaten run in the competition to a remarkable 72 games as they remain on course for a 13th consecutive title.

Lismore, under the management of Dan Shanahan, put it up to the holders for long stages of the game and, after having trailed by 0-9 to 0-4 at half-time, a Ben O’Sullivan goal in the 44th minute brought them back to within a point of the All-Ireland champions.

Substitute Pauric Mahony pulled back a few scores for Gunners and they’d land the hammer blow with five minutes remaining when Ronan Power found the net for them.

The later game in Dungarvan saw Fourmilewater booking their place in the Waterford SHC semi-finals for the first time since 2023 with a 0-26 to 1-16 win over Passage.

Aaron Ryan starred for the victors with 0-14 over the hour, while Sean Walsh and Evan Spelman were also in fine form.

Ryan’s frees helped Fourmilewater to edge a 0-14 to 0-11 lead by the halfway stage and they’d push the margin out to seven early in the second-half prior to Rory Jacob pulling back a goal for Passage.

The Nire men responded to the concession by firing over six points without reply to regain control and eventually see out the result which now leaves them a win away from the county final.

The other two senior quarter-finals in the Deise County are down for decision this afternoon.
