Shane Curran has taken the reins of Offaly side Durrow for a second time.

The former Roscommon goalkeeper previously managed the Westmeath-border club in 2020 when they claimed SFC ‘B’ honours. However, Curran and his assistant Owen Mooney controversially opted not to attend the final against Gracefield after the county board had refused their request for the game to be postponed after one of the Durrow players was identified as a close contact of a confirmed Covid-19 positive test.

In their absence, former Galway All-Ireland winning half back and 2001 Footballer of the Year Declan Meehan, who lived locally at the time, took charge of the team and led them to an emphatic 2-13 to 2-5 victory.

A flamboyant figure, Curran subsequently managed Westmeath club Caulry before spending less than a year in charge of the Carlow senior footballers. He has also managed Padraig Pearses in his native Roscommon.

Curran’s return to Durrow - which was first reported by the Tullamore Tribune - comes after they conceded a walkover to Rhode in their final Offaly SFC group match last year due to many of their dual players opting to concentrate on sister club Ballinamere’s SHC quarter-final against Kilcormac/Killoughey a week later.
