Kieran McGeeney isn’t expecting any favours from Kieran Donaghy when he returns to Armagh with Kerry on Sunday.
‘Star’ spent five years with McGeeney in the Orchard County, during which he coached them to All-Ireland glory in 2024, before returning to his native Kingdom this year to take up a similar role in Jack O’Connor’s management team.
Armagh need a win to secure their Allianz Football League Division 1 status, but McGeeney knows they won’t get any help from Donaghy.
“He mightn't talk to me this week," the Armagh manager said in the Croke Park media room following last Saturday night’s crucial win over Dublin.
“As I've always said, no different than me being an Armagh man, he’s a big Kerry man.
“You can see the influence he's having on them already but there's never a question of where his loyalty is. He has a lot of good friends in Armagh and he's done a lot for us.
“I'm married to a Kerry woman, so I know this for an absolute fact – they don't f**k about! They're winners through and through, regardless of what you do, I don't expect any favours if that's what you're asking, but I'm sure we'll be chatting.”
