Galway champions Moycullen are through to the Connacht club senior football championship semi-finals after seeing off Sligo winners Shamrock Gaels on a comprehensive 1-20 to 1-9 scoreline in Tubbercurry this afternoon.
The visitors registered the first four scores of the game and were 0-5 to 0-1 up when Shane Deignan grabbed a 14th minute goal for Shamrock Gaels.
David Wynne, Dessie Conneely (1-10) and Fionn McDonagh all shot over points that sent Moycullen in with a 0-10 to 1-3 half-time lead and they’d stretch their advantage after the change of ends with scores from Sean O’Connor, Conneely and Johnny Moloney.
David Quinn (free) and Lee Deignan (‘45’) pulled back scores for the Shamrocks, who secured their first Sligo SFC crown in 33 years a fortnight ago, but they’d be dealt a hammer blow once Conneely found their net in the 55th minute.
The same player would land two more scores late on to wrap up the 11-point win for Moycullen, which pits them against newly crowned Leitrim champions Leitrim Gaels in the last four of the western province next weekend.
