Westport completed a brilliant second-half comeback against Breaffy yesterday evening to advance to the semi-finals of the Mayo senior football championship.

Colm Moran’s 58th minute goal sealed the 2-16 to 1-16 victory for the 2022 champions as the home side packing after a nine-point turnaround.

Breaffy had run up an early 0-4 to 0-1 lead before Killian Kilkelly hit the net for the visitors, but the scores of Davitt Neary, Matthew Ruane and Daire Morrin would see men in blue and white stripes move towards a 0-13 to 1-5 half-time lead.

Neary’s goal four minutes into the second-half would extend his side’s advantage to nine points ahead of the Westport comeback which saw two-pointers from Conal Dawson, Finbar McLaughlin and substitute Moran sailing over and they’d level matters from a free in the 54th minute.

Four minutes later and the ball would be in the back of Breaffy’s net via Moran (watch it below) which was enough to secure a dramatic win for Westport who now have a semi-final to look forward to.

Meanwhile, three-in-a-row chasing Ballina Stephenites also secured their place in the last four of the Paddy Moclair Cup race with a 1-14 to 2-7 win against Ballaghaderreen, and Aghamore retained their senior status thanks to a 1-15 to 0-13 victory over Ballyhaunis.
