Derry made it three wins from three in Division 1 of the Allianz Football League by crushing Monaghan in a 3-17 to 0-13 scoreline at Celtic Park this evening.
Shane McGuigan was on song early on for the Ulster champions as they opened up a 0-8 to 0-2 lead and just when the visitors looked to be gathering momentum, they’d be sucker-punched by a Conor McCluskey goal in the 27th minute.
It led Mickey Harte’s men towards a 1-9 to 0-6 interval lead and, after three Jack McCarron points looked to trim Monaghan’s deficit, the ball would be in their net again on 49 minutes – this time Padraig McGrogan supplied the finish for hosts.
Two McGuigan points (one a free) made it a 10-point game ahead of Conor Doherty’s goal on the hour mark raising the Derry tally to 3-15.
Dessie Ward and McCarron got consolation points back for the Farney men, as Ethan Doherty rounded off the Oak Leafers impressive tally deep in injury-time.
