A fundraising drive is underway to help a Galway club footballer who suffered life-changing injuries in a road accident two months ago.

Twenty-year-old Liam Davoren, who plays football with Moycullen and is also a talented hurler and handballer, was seriously injured on Lombard Street, Galway city on October 12 and rushed to Beaumont Hospital where he remained intubated on a ventilator with an intracranial brain haemorrhage, facial fractures and a broken jaw on both sides.

He stayed in a medically-induced coma for almost three weeks and suffered malignant hyperthermia, an abnormally high body temperature reaching an incredibly dangerous 44°C. After six weeks in Beaumont and two major surgeries, Liam is currently recovering at the High Dependency Unit in Galway University Hospital.

"The Davoren family has been astonished and comforted by the outpouring of all the prayers and Masses said, far and wide for Liam," the page says.
